Buying a used blower...what to look for

At the topic says. I'm looking at picking-up a used blower and I need to know what I should check tomake sure everything is ok. Can anyone help me out?

You'll probably have to buy another intake manifold gasket. There's the extent of my knowledge....

Check for overall condition of course. If it's been ragged upon you'll be able to tell. Specifically, look at the condition of the rotors themselves. they should spin freely, be clean and free of scratches or scores, particularly at the sealing edges. Damage is a sign of overheating or foreign objects getting into the blower (really not good). Also look at the condition of the pulleys and the nose of the blower for any leaking oil (signs of a bad bearing or seal)

Get a complete parts list and installation manual from JR. These are available as PDF file downloads from their website. This will allow you to see if everything is there.

You should expect to replace the blower gasket, throttle body gasket, and intake manifold gasket (a heat sheild gasket is recommended) as well as the belts and miscellaneous tubes and hoses.

Final word of warning, if a deal sounds too good to be true it usually is. Caveat Emptor.

Thanks for the tips. I'll make sure to run off that list from the JR site. Plan to use Holden's install site pictures to me too since I'm new at this.

PS - deal is too good to be true, but it is good friend so I fell ok about it. Just want to know the condition of the blower. Thanks.
